Throughout Fall 2019 Webster University’s Accessibility Committee will be coordinating with campus and community partners to produce a series of podcasts focused on providing access to students with disabilities.
The first podcast of the series is available here: Student Self-Advocacy 101. Please listen to this 12-minute podcast to learn more about accessing accommodations as a student with a disability at Webster University and about self-advocacy. This information is important for all students and helpful to faculty and staff members as well.
In this session, Nellie Hopmann, Webster University’s Academic ADA Coordinator, speaks with Katie Fields, College Outreach Coordinator, and Sarah Schwegel, Youth Transition Coordinator, both from Starkloff Disability Institute, about student self-advocacy. Highlights include best practices in what students can do to be better advocates for themselves, the rights and responsibilities that students have in setting up their accommodations, and suggested campus contacts students should be aware of and in contact with as they access their accommodations at Webster.
Watch for announcements of forthcoming podcasts in the series, including the next one in August in which Hopmann outlines the processes for setting up ADA accommodations and how faculty and staff can support students throughout this process.
