Library Spotlight Resource Guide: PsycTESTS

Kathy Gaynor, Instruction & Liaison Services Librariangaynor

Are you looking for a test, survey, or other type of instrument to use for a project? Instead of creating your own, check the PsycTESTS database to see if someone else has already created one that you can use for free. PsycTESTS, produced by the American Psychological Association, provides descriptive information for primarily non-commercial instruments that have appeared in books, dissertations, articles, etc. In many cases, all or part of the instrument is provided. The database also indicates whether or not you need permission from the author before using the instrument in a project.

To access the PsycTESTS database, go to Webster University’s library home page and click on Articles/Databases. Then click on the drop down menu under “Know what database you want?” and find PsycTESTS in the alphabetical list. This database is available to all students, staff, and faculty at Webster University.

For more information about finding tests, consult our research guide, “Finding Tests & Other Instruments” at You will also need to follow university policies for any human subjects’ research by visiting the Institutional Review Board website at
