OLC Course Developer & WorldClassRoom Administration Team: Barrett Stokes

Barrett in the green room next to the camera. We caught up with Barrett, one of our Course Developers to learn a little more about him:

Please tell us about yourself and your background: I received my BA from Columbia College Chicago in film making and have worked in television and film in both Chicago and Los Angeles. I have worked in every capacity from production assistant to editor to assistant director. The best thing about working film production is, every day is a new adventure. No two days are the same!

What do you do in your free time? From my earlier days in film and television, I still enjoy seeing movies and watching the golden age of television, as well as a bit of screenwriting in my free time. I also enjoy spending time with my family, especially my son’s various sporting events.

How long have you been with Webster? I have been part of Webster University, in the Online Learning Center, for the last 3 and half years.

How do you help Webster University Online students and faculty? One of the functions of my job as a Course Developer is to create, edit, and produce videos with faculty, guest speakers, and other staff members for various uses across the campus. These range from creating course content to creating training materials for university wide distribution to recording special seminars for archival use.

What do you do as a Course Developer?  As a Course Developer, I produce video lectures, procure outside videos, and help create multimedia interactions to bring rich and engaging content to the online courses Webster University offers.

What part of your job is the most satisfying? I really enjoy creating testimonial videos for our faculty and students. It’s a great way to find out about the interesting stories that make up their lives. (Learn more at our YouTube channel!)

Do you have any advice for students? Never stop working toward your dream. It may seem hard, or far away, but if you keep working… You’ll get there. And there is no better feeling than making your dreams a reality.

What’s your favorite part of Webster University. My favorite thing about Webster University is the diversity. It’s amazing meeting students, faculty, and staff from around the globe.
